Bolivia

Bolivia is located at the centre of South America and covers an area of approximately 1,265 km and has a total of 8 million inhabitants. La Paz, the capital, sits at a very high altitude – 4000 metres above sea level. It is a city filled with colonial remains, very friendly locals and numerous hotels and services. Taking a stroll through the markets while observing the “Cholas” in their quaint Derby hats, coloured shawls and broad skirts is a spectacle hard to match.

Visitors to Bolivia have endless opportunities to enjoy the country’s variety; a few hours north of La Paz is Lake Titiaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. There are many legends regarding this lake, all of which contribute to its mysteriousness. There are several snowy peaks to discover, most of which are over 6000 metres high. A rest in the lush and warm subtropical valleys of the Yungas, located between the mountains and the jungle, will help you recover from the Andes while getting close to beautiful, untouched nature.

The Uyuni salt flats are also a must-see in Bolivia. Covering more than 12,000 square kilometres, it is considered one of the largest salt flats in the world. Cochabamba is a city that must also be visited; capital of the Bolivian valleys, this city is a corn producing area populated by Quechua and Aymara Indians who have inherited all their ancestors’ traditions: typical dress, ritual ceremonies and their legendary friendliness and hospitality.
