Ecuador
Ecuador is a country full of diverse cultures, climates and landscapes. It offers impressive Andean highlands, an intriguing Amazon jungle, and an untamed tropical coastline along the Pacific coast, not to mention the marvellous wonders of the Galapagos Islands 600 miles west of the continent. Each region abounds in colourful and fascinating varieties of Indian cultures, many of which can still be seen today practicing their traditional customs.
Ecuador’s climate is as varied as its regions; hot, tropical days to cool spring nights can be experienced depending upon the region visited.
One of Ecuador’s great attractions is its relative compactness. The capital, Quito, is actually two distinct cities; the old city which contains all the historic buildings and the new city which boasts many varied hotels, bars, restaurants and cafes. As well as other attractions, visitors to Ecuador can enjoy trips to Otavalo the famous traditional handicrafts market, to Cotopaxi National Park to climb or admire the volcano, to Cuenca for its beautiful churches and museums, to the coast for a variety of beaches, to the Oriente for a fascinating jungle trip or to the world famous Galapagos Islands for spectacular wildlife.
